PLEXSYS to Provide NORAD Air Defense Sectors LVC Training Capability
Jan 20, 2015 | By: Tara Marta
CAMAS, WASHINGTON (January 19, 2015) – Air Forces Northern (AFNORTH) is now using PLEXSYS’ Advanced Simulation Combat Operations Trainer (ASCOT) environment generator, and PLEXComm voice suites at NORAD air defense sectors in Rome, New York, and Tacoma, Washington. This capability will allow Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) Homeland Defense (HLD) mission training capability with 4th and 5th generation fighter simulators and other advanced training systems operating on the Air Force’s Distributed Mission Operations Network (DMON). ASCOT will generate a constructive environment for LVC training. It will serve to stimulate the Multi-Source Correlator Tracker/Tactical Display Framework (MSCT-TDF), a component of the Battlespace Command, Control, and Communications (BC3) configuration.
The LVC capability primarily ensures Air Battle Managers (ABM) in the Air Defense Sectors maintain training currency, and are combat mission-ready at all times. ASCOT has been AFNORTH’s primary constructive homeland-defense, scenario-generation model since 2006. NORAD’s air defense sectors use it daily to achieve and maintain ABM readiness; to conduct annual Top Scope crew competitions; to replicate advanced sensors and cruise missile threats for TTP events including Joint Deployable Integrated Air and Missile Defense, and most recently Joint National Capital Region Enhanced Surveillance TTP Special Project (J-NEST SP). This latest addition to AFNORTHs PLEXSYS-provided suite of modeling and simulation capabilities will be connected to specific architectures that will enable full spectrum mission rehearsal with advanced 4th and 5th generation simulators stationed throughout the world.
